This paper investigates the scholarly significance of this topic. Osaka Shoin Women’s University has offered a curriculum in beauty studies for 10 years, in which time it has proposed new avenues of research in this area and sought to reaffirm the significance of such study. The present paper first aims to assert a planning process of beauty studies curricula. It then provides a chronological examination of beauty studies at Osaka Shoin Women’s University. This is followed by an examination of potential academic disciplines for inclusion among beauty studies. The paper also addresses what should be included in the foundations of beauty studies with regard to questions raised concerning present  day know- ledge in line with postmodern thought.
