For 8 years, We surveyed 473 incoming freshmen about the degree of university life in April（at the time of enrollment）, June and November of that year. We examined the relationship between university life satisfaction during their first year of the students and their retention. We used the Scale of University Life Satisfaction shortened version（SoULS  21）, developed by the authors.\nThe results showed that, contrary to the fact that non  dropouts rose in companionship satisfaction from April to June, dropouts have higher companionship satisfaction than non  dropouts in April, and companionship satisfaction declines more than non  dropouts in November. In addition, dropouts showed that their commit- ment to the university fell from April to June and was lower in November than that of the non  dropouts.
