Using a violation -of­ expectation task，infants from  5 to 11 month市 old were presented  alternatively with  two types  of arithmetical events:  the  possible， correct  outcomes  of operations (2 objects + 1 object = 3 objects  or 1 object + 1 object = 3 objects)  and  the  impossible，incorrect  ones  (1 object + 1 object = 2 objects  or 1 object 十 2  objects = 2 objects).
