A home is not the same thing as a house. Pestalozzi argued that “pedagogy of living room” was critical for children’s sound development. German researcher Bollnow defined home as a peaceful sanctuary and the essential place where our lives are rooted. These definitions led me to conduct phenomenological research aimed at clarifying the significance of home for children. The subjects were for undergraduate student teachers at my university. The student teachers participated in several group activities on the meaning of home: listing images of home, explaining these images, seeking meanings that are expressed in picture books and movies, and reading the description of being left in “Researching Lived Experience” by Max van Manen. Students tend to be unaware concerning Home, then it is no doubt for students to present and living in Home. Therefore, it would be stimulable and exciting experience for them. They re consider from the perspective of children’s view and experience, then they realize the meaning of Home. Precisely because they are going to step into elementary, kindergarten, or nursery schools as teachers, it is powerful activities to address the fundamental meaning of “Home” for children.
