The Maternal and Child Health Law was established in 1965 as a measure of infection prevention in order to decrease the infant mortality rate. After 30 years it was amended in 1994，and community based public health centers， which are based on Maternal and Child Health Law，are positioned as the core organization for child-rearing support.
However，the roles of professional psychologists in the area of Maternal and Child Health are not quite established yet. Some concerns are raised by professional psycholo gists who are involved in Maternal and Child Health Service. They are experiencing diffi culty in making good use of their professional expertise to carry out their roles required in the new framework of child -rearing support.
This study examed the actual roles of professional psychologists at Maternal and Child health Service in order to discuss possible contribution they could make in this area.
